Profile
St Mary’s is the island’s parish church and the most active. It is open daily from 11am to 4pm for visits and private prayer.
The church is the oldest building on the island and includes sections from the Saxon period, most notably the Saxon arch.
The church is home to a magnificent elm sculpture carved by Fenwick Lawson, entitled The Journey. It depicts hooded monks carrying St Cuthbert’s coffin when they left the island in 875. Two twentieth century windows celebrate Aidan and Cuthbert.
Service times are advertised on the church’s website.
The parish vicar is Revd Canon Dr Sarah Hills.
